Epektibong Wika na Ginagamit sa mga Pampublikong Signages sa Lungsod Zamboanga

ABSTRACT : This study aims to determine the most effective language used in public warnings and symbols in Zamboanga City. It employs a quantitative research design with a descriptive-quantitative approach. Convenience sampling was used to select respondents, while the survey-checklist served as the research instrument, containing questions on participants’ preferences and perceptions regarding effective languages on public signages, warnings, and symbols. Data were collected from participants across various public spaces in Zamboanga City, including Paseo del Mar, San Jose Cawa-Cawa Boulevard, and Pasonanca Park. The results confirmed that English (N=68) was the most frequently observed language on signages among participants. Chavacano (N=55), serving as the city’s lingua franca, ranked second, followed by Filipino (N=33), the national language. This study demonstrates that Zamboanga City’s linguistic landscape is shaped by its multicultural identity. The objective of this research is to identify the most effective language for public signs and symbols in Zamboanga City through participants’ knowledge, observations, perceptions related to it, and their views on its usage and dissemination.
