The data analysis technique used a twoway analysis of variance with a 2×2 factorial design. The results presented that: (1) a contextual method based on stop motion animation media was better than a contextual approach based on image media in gaining the students’ ability to compose a short story. (2) the students who have high mastery of vocabulary were better than them who had less knowledge of vocabulary, and (3) there was no interaction between learning media-based contextual method and vocabulary mastery.
