ABSTRACT: We analyze the determinants of the attractiveness of research systems in Europe in the period2010-2019. We use data from the European Innovation Scoreboard for 36 countries. The attractiveness ofresearch systems is relevant for the fact the processes of innovation and research and development areassociated to more productive economic systems and to higher levels of economic growth. Especially indeveloped countries the probability to improve the economic growth depends from innovations in the productivesystem and technology. The ability of a country to attract research and development can have a relevant effecton the prosperity. We found that the attractiveness of a research system is positively associated with “Businessand Entrepreneurships”, “Innovation Index”, “Linkages”, “Performance and structure of the economy”, “SalesImpacts” and negatively associated with “Employment Impacts”, “Firm investments”, “Governance and PolicyFramework”, “Human Resources”, “Innovators”.Main concepts:Knowledge economy, Innovation economy, Schumpterian economics, Solow growth model,National innovation systems
